Cerebral Palsy Birth Inury Donations is a site created specifically for Karl, our son. However, we know that many other families are facing the exact same problem that we are; a birth injury caused through no fault of your own. Postings from other families are definitely welcome here.
Cerebral Palsy from Birth Injury is quite common.
The difficult part may be pinpointing the cause and holding someone accountable (even when the cause is apparent).
Which is what happened to us. The burden of proof.
So for now, we are unable to attain justice for our son Karl, who through no fault of his own (or ours), is subject to a lifelong debilitation. Money doesn't change everything but we need help in providing him a better environment that is better suited to his needs. We cannot accomplish these things ourselves and need to ask the public for their help and support. According to figures published by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), the average lifetime cost for a person with cerebral palsy is $921,000 (a 2003 dollar sum). This figure does not account for many out of pocket expenses as well as home modifications to help suit their needs such as ramps, etc. Karl in particular, has acquired cerebral palsy from a birth injury that occurred during an birthing procedure by a facility that was ill-equipped to care for an infant in distress. Thereby, causing his brain-damage injuries that need not occurred. This is fact.
Our son was known as an emergency delivery case, prior to delivery. The facility elected to perform an emergency c-section to accomodate his birth. The facility was so ill-equipped in which that they did not have the proper equipment such as an intubation tool/unit for a new-born baby. Karl had been birthed by the facility and it was immediately discovered that he was in additional distress. More than five hours had passed before the decision was made to fly him out to an appropriate facility. Leaving us, the parents, in the dark. We were not alerted to his condition until thirty minutes prior to his departure to another facility.
Our son has specifically, injury to the motor-skills section of his brain that has affected him in a variety of ways that are still unknown to us. He has the typical symptoms of a child with mild cerebral palsy with the exceptions of severe hearing loss as well as CVI cortical vision impairment. His disibilaties include feeding problems, speech and communication problems, developmental problems where he is at the level of a child half his age. The amount of problems and enormity of his problems cannot be fully explained here as there are so many. The house and environment in which he lives is not completely safe or adapted to someone with his needs. We need some modifications to the existing structure in which he resides as well as additional living space that is adequate for his disabilities.
This barely scratches the surface as to the problems experienced by Karl and by ourselves as well as siblings and other family members. We will provide further info upon req uest to potential donors to his needs or in other sections of this website. We truly, absolutely, need your help in obtaining more appropriate living conditions for our wonderful son Karl. Help for Others: We know we are not alone. We know there are many other families out there in the exact same situation. This is why we have started this website. In the hopes that we can find help for our current situation and for those in desparate need as well. We are inviting families with the same affliction to post their own stories.
We fully thank you for your visit and hope that this site has given you some insight as to the current and seemingly growing, silent problem of Cerebral Palsy Birth Injury occurrences. |
